What to prepare
- The item details you enter when booking: description, HS code, country of manufacture, quantity and the real value. For goods for sale, also attach the seller’s commercial invoice.
- Recipient’s full name, Indian mobile number and complete address with the 6-digit PIN code.
- For personal parcels: the recipient should keep a copy of the Aadhaar card or passport ready in case customs asks for KYC.
- For commercial goods: the importer’s IEC number.
Duties in India
Import duty and IGST are set by Indian customs from the item and the declared value, and are normally paid by the recipient before delivery.

What is an IEC and do I need one?
The Importer Exporter Code is required for commercial imports into India. Personal parcels and gifts do not need one.
